Korindo Aikido
Morihei Ueshiba (Founder of Aikido)
Korindo Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art, founded by master Hirai Minoru in 1945. This unique style of aikido is historically related to Ueshiba Morihei’s Aikido but is based on Hirai Sensei’s own understanding of circular body movement (tai sabaki) and spherical hip rotation (koshi-mawashi). Hirai Sensei’s Korindo is an amalgamation of Ueshiba Morihei’s Aiki-Budo (Ueshiba Daito-ryu, circa WWII) with various classical schools of jujutsu and weaponry. The development of Korindo Aikido was influenced by the following classical traditions:
- Togun-ryu (jujutsu)
- Takenouchi-ryu (jujutsu)
- Kito-ryu (jujutsu)
- Daito-ryu (jujutsu)
- Okumura Nito-ryu (kenjutsu)
- Saburi-ryu (sojutsu)
